Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18 1/2 Inch Smoker
I bought the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker in December 2008 as an early Christmas present to myself.
At the time, my wife thought that it was too much money to spend on something that will probably only be used a few times per year.
Not only did she have the best smoked turkey on the block for Christmas, but she also had to eat some crow that day too.
If you've ever had real barbecue from a restaurant (not from a chain), you know the difference that a good smoker can make. They have large smokers that can smoke a lot meat at the same time, because they need to feed the masses.
Luckily, with the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker, you can have that real barbecue taste in the comfort of your own home.
Back when I was growing up, my dad had a smoker that he had built out of an old oil drum. That thing was amazing. He taught me a lot about smoking meat. We would smoke everything: Turkey, chicken, deer, elk. If you could legally kill it, we would smoke it. And, it was delicious every time.
Fast forward 30 years: I live in the suburbs. My wife and I have 4 kids and cat. I shopped around for a smoker for a long time, read the reviews, asked a lot of questions on forums, and debated. After a long and exhausting search, I finally settled on one that a lot of pros use: The Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker.
They say that the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker is even better than the previous Weber smoker (model number 2820). I wouldn't know. I never owned that one. Although I have grilled for years, this is my very first smoker.
Since this was my first smoker, I don't know how this one compares to any of the others. However, I will say that this thing is amazing and easy to use. It probably won't hold two turkeys, but it can definitely hold a large turkey and some other meats (a whole chicken, a ham, some ribs, etc).
Last Christmas, it was incredibly easy to get the charcoal going, put the water in and get it up to temperature. After that, I put the bird in and let it go. Clean-up was easy too, following the tips on the website.
If you on the fence about a smoker get the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker. You will not be disappointed.
