Last year, for Christmas, the neighbors purchased their son the ever popular Razor Electric E100 Scooter.

Since our kids play together so much (all the time), our neighbors approached us and asked us if we wanted to purchase a Razor Electric E100 Scooter, also. That way, our son wouldn't feel left out.

This was a very considerate move on our neighbor's part, but there was one problem: We didn't WANT our son to have a scooter.

You see, our son is 110% boy... and he's already racked up a few good emergency room bills. Just when we think that he can't possibly find another way to risk life and limb, he surprises us again.

So, we refused.

Our neighbor purchased the scooter for his son for Christmas, and our son went without.

But, when I saw the Razor Electric E100 Scooter in action for the first time on Christmas day, I realized a few things:

  • First of all, the scooter has a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour. That's not too bad. My son rides his bike faster than that with no hands.
  • Secondly, our son is about a year older than the neighbor's son (who seemed to master it in about 5 seconds).
  • Third, the battery on the Razor Electric E100 Scooter only lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, and takes about 8 hours to fully charge the battery.

This last point may seem like a negative, but it's not a negative at all! We are actually very happy that this scooter won't replace getting some good exercise.

It's actually the reason why we purchased the Razor Electric E100 Scooter for our son the day after Christmas. It worked out well, since our son's birthday is the first week of January.

Our son is 8 years old, and he loves riding this thing. I have heard of some people purchasing the scooter for their 5 and 6 year old. That's a little too young, in my opinion... but, to each their own.

My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that the scooter scrapes the ground when he takes sharp curves, but it hasn't proven to be a hazard so far.

My son's only complaint about the Razor Electric E100 Scooter has been about battery life. But, he has quickly learned to accept that he will only get about an hour of riding time (at the most) before it dies.

But, as I said earlier in this hub, as a concerned parent who is fully aware of the American epidemic of childhood obesity, I'm more than happy about the 1 hour battery life.

One final note: Safety gear is a must for the Razor Electric E100 Scooter. Our son already had some skateboard safety equipment (helmet, elbow and knee pads), so if your son or daughter doesn't already have these, I suggest you purchase those along with the Razor Electric E100 Scooter.

Be safe.

Do not waste your money. This scooter is fun and my son loved it while it lasted. The battery stopped taking a charge after 2 weeks and then you can't return or exchange you have to deal with Razor. The only way you can get a hold of them is by email. They tell you they will send you replacement parts but I have had to email them twice since the original email and still no parts. So my son paid for a scooter that he drove for 2 weeks and now it is sitting there doing nothing.

momdapsi, sorry to hear about your battery! sounds like a defective product..I hope razor steps up and stands behind their warranty. About the short battery time, some people keep an extra charger at school, office, or wherever else, so they can top off the battery when it's not in use. LK Town.com has the best prices on scooter chargers, the link for for razor E100 charger ($14.90) is here:

Purchased two for Christmas on November 26, 2010. By March 01, 2011 both no longer work properly. One had an electrical short and the power no longer turns off. The second has a throttle that sticks. Calling the manufacturer lead to no repairs. I bought an extended warranty from Kmart which I will now try to get repairs through. I suggest avoiding this product. A 90 day warranty is insanely short. Repair parts are way over priced, $20 for a $3 lighted rocker switch. They force you to pay FEDEX to ship. Not a happy consumer.
