I received this Panasonic automatic bread maker for Christmas about 2 years ago from my aunt, who knew that I liked to bake breads, rolls, cookies, pies and such.

It was one of those gifts that I thought I would never use.

Why?

First of all, I had given up using automatic bread makers a few years before, due to having so many bad experiences with them.

I was sick and tired of following all the directions for the bread machine to the letter, only to end up prying a heavy brick of failed bread out of the "non-stick" pan.

I quickly switched to a Kitchen Aid Classic mixer for making my bread dough, and baking it in a bread pan in the oven. Later, I switched to the Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer. You can read my review of my Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer by following this link.

The second reason why I didn't think that I would ever use the Panasonic automatic bread maker was because it was so large! The box was huge, and the bread maker on the inside wasn't much smaller.

The third reason? Pride.

Real bakers, I thought, didn't need a bread machine. Even a hobbyist, such as myself, eventually moves away from such devices, right? Wouldn't it only be laziness that pushed me back into using a tool like the Panasonic automatic bread maker?

Well, whatever it was that inspired me try finally try my aunt's Christmas gift, I'm sure glad that I did. The Panasonic automatic bread maker makes AMAZING bread.

Let me repeat that last statement: THIS PANASONIC AUTOMATIC BREAD MAKER MAKES AMAZING BREAD!

I've never used a bread maker with a "yeast dispenser". I was used to the "dig a swallow hole" method with the other bread makers. The yeast dispenser keeps the yeast away from the other ingredients until it's needed... which is ingenious.

Not only that, but the timer features on this unit is very handy. There are many weekends that we wake up to the smell of fresh bread in the morning. Believe me, there is nothing quite like starting out a lazy Sunday morning with coffee and fresh buttered bread.

The Panasonic automatic bread maker even makes great banana nut bread, zucchini bread, and other types of loaves that do no require yeast.

The recipes in the book that comes with the Panasonic automatic bread maker is very good considering that it's a "freebie" (I imagine that it was a strategic measure by the company to help avoid returns caused by using bad recipes).

However, the recipes in the book are measured by WEIGHT, not volume... and requires the purchase of a digital scale, if you don't already have one.

Note: Measuring ingredients by volume can be tricky (especially with flour) as air pockets can frequently occur and throw off the delicate ratios required for excellent bread.

So, all things considered, I love this bread maker. I've used it for almost 2 years, so I can honestly say that if anyone has the ability to judge this Panasonic automatic bread maker, it would be me. I have the ability to make great bread without it, but I still use it... a lot.

My tips to using the Panasonic automatic bread maker? Use a digital scale, do not use the rapid mode (use the regular standard mode) and be sure to use the timer, so that you too can enjoy waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread on a lazy Sunday morning.
