Midland CB Radio Review
The Midland CB Radio - 5001Z 40 Channel Mobile CB with Switchable Noise Filter, RF Gain PA and Instant Channel 9
Warning: This review includes some CB radio jargon that I will define at the end of this review.
I'm not a truck driver, but I'm on the road a lot.
As a mobile IT services "geek" that does in-home and in-office on-site technical work, I can travel all the way from Denver, Colorado to Cheyenne, Wyoming.... and then out to Laramie, Wyoming and then back.
I have a lot of area to cover in my four-wheeler.
There is one thing that I have in my car with me at all times to make the time pass quicker: My Midland CB Radio (the 5001Z 40 Channel Mobile CB with Switchable Noise Filter, RF Gain PA and Instant Channel 9, to be exact).
I've been into CB radio since I was about 3 or 4 years old. My grandpa used to drive around with me in the truck and we used to listen to all the other truck drivers talk to each other in "code".
It was so neat to listen to the CB chatter and then ask my grandpa what was just said.
At such a young age, I picked up a lot very fast. I'm no expert, but I'm also not what someone would call an appliance operator.
But, I'm not a yapper, either. I usually keep my mouth shut when there is nothing to say. It's still fun to listen to the chatter that comes through on my CB.
With the Midland CB Radio, I can keep track of where the "smokies" are, and I can also tell others where the smokeys are "advertising", or report a "bear in the bushes" when I see them first.

As far the quality of the Midland CB radio, it's a great CB for both beginners and experienced CB radio enthusiasts. Before buying my Midland CB Radio, I did tons of research on forums, review sites, and product pages. I do my homework before I purchase something, and the Midland CB Radio purchase was no different.
The Midland CB Radio model 5001Z has 4 Watts of output power (maximum allowed output strength), and takes up very little space... making it a great CB for a car or small truck. This Midland CB Radio has all of the latest features to make both reception and output more clear.
All in all, this CB has big ears for a low price.
Also, I really like the retro silver face of this Midland CB Radio, and reminds me of the one that my grandpa had in his truck.
Here is the translation for the CB jargon I used in my review (there is a lot more, believe me):
- Yapper = Someone who can't keep mouth shut on the CB
- Smokey = Police
- Advertising = Police car with lights on
- Bear = Police
- Bear in the bushes = Police, hiding in the bushes
- Big ears = a good CB radio
- Appliance operator = an inexperienced, novice CB radio owner
- Four wheeler = passenger car (not a big truck)
