Kitchenaid Classic Mixer - An Honest Review of a Much Loved Appliance
68
Thinking back on it, I honestly think that I first took up cooking in order to impress people.
It was a shock value thing. "Wow, a guy who cooks... and cooks amazingly well, too!" I liked hearing stuff like that. It made me want to cook more.
Over time, I learned to enjoy cooking for the sake of creating something great. But, I still love to cook for others.
Unfortunately, owning a business, raising kids and being a husband takes up most of my time. My tight schedule just doesn't have the flexibility that it used to.
So, I've taken to shopping for tools that will allow me to enjoy cooking and cut my prep time down as much as possible. That is what led me to the Kitchenaid Classic Mixer.
I purchased the Kitchenaid Classic Mixer about 3 years ago, and I used it religiously at first. I would mix dough for everything: bread, pizza, giant pretzels, yeast rolls, etc.
This mixer was everything I needed it to be for almost a full two years, but then weird things started happening.
First, the motor on my Kitchenaid Classic Mixer would get extremely warm and fill the entire kitchen with what smelled like burning oil.
About 6 months after this occurrence, my Kitchenaid Classic Mixer gears started slipping when making dough (it worked fine in the past, and still worked fine for lighter mixing).
The last straw was when my Kitchenaid Classic Mixer started leaking oil into the mixing bowl. After searching the Internet, I found many others who complained about this also. I guess that's what I get for buying the "cheap" model (okay, I'm kidding... I do not think that $200+ is cheap).
So, anyway... I decided to retire my Kitchenaid Classic Mixer and get a Kitchenaid Professional Mixer. After hearing about it's stronger motor, machined metal gears (and no reports of leaking oil), it was a no-brainer.
Despite all of the good reviews of this product on the Internet right now, I cannot recommend this product to anyone. Save your pennies for the Kitchenaid Professional Mixer. It's a little more expensive, but so far, it seems to be worth it.
I'll be writing my review of my Kitchenaid Professional Mixer soon.
