Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer Review

The Kitchenaid Professional 600 Series 6 Quart Stand Mixer - Model KP26M1XNP
The Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer a step above the Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer.
To read about my take on the the Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer, follow this link. Hint: It ain't great.
However, my experience with the Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer (Kitchen Aid Mixer Model KP26M1XNP) has been phenomenal.
With more power, a larger bowl, and better attachments... this is the mixer to best all other mixers.
The Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer is just that... for professionals. Sure, I'm not really a professional, but I when I purchase something I want PROBLEM FREE OPERATION. With the Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer, that's exactly what I got.
On the all of the sales literature, Kitchen Aid says that this mixer will handle up to 14 cups of all-purpose flour. I have only used it with 10 so far (2 large loaves of bread). The included spiral dough hook kneads dough like no other!
Since I've only had this a few months, I haven't really put it through the paces. I wanted to test it out a little more before writing a review, but decided that I just couldn't hold in my excitement over this product.
So far, I've used it for bread, pizza dough, cookies, mashed potatoes, and even whipped cream (an extremely light duty for this monster mixer).
By the way, the whipped cream experience was a perfect excuse to verify the "soft start" feature that eliminates splatter... just one of the many amazing improvements over the Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer (as well as the host of cheapo mixers out there).
With a strong motor, solid metal gears in a metal gear housing, this is the mixer that I may very well be able to pass on to my grandkids (if cooking is still fashionable in the future).
Like many of my other reviews, I do have a couple of complaints.
The first is the non-dishwasher safe attachments that come with the Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer. This is the year 2010, right? What are they thinking? Oh well...
My second complaint with the Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer? The motor is LOUD. There is no other way to describe it. You just can't carry on a conversation when this thing is in use.
But, those are minor complaints compared to how much stress the Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer has eliminated from my life.
Note: If you are doing your own research on the web, you may come across multiple complaints of gears, or gear box problems. Please understand that these are old reviews. Those problems have been resolved. At one time the all metal gears were housed in a plastic gear box, a flaw that Kitchen Aid has corrected. You won't find many of those old machines out there, but there are some still out there. If you order one from Amazon, you will get one of the new ones that do not have the plastic gear box problem.

Our KitchenAid Professional 600 died as well. Even though it has metal gears and a metal gear housing, one of the gears stripped on one side. My wife used to make tortillas and pasta on occasion, I guess these are not necessarily up to the task even though they look pretty dependable.
I have used mine for holidays and maybe once a month for other cooking. My husband replaced the gears about a year ago and now the motor gave out. Professional is an overstatement for this product. The attachments (meat griner etc.) are clumsy and slow. I have sent my husband on a hunt for something out there that will hold up.
The gear box problem is a huge issue, not only because a "professional mixer" should last longer than 10 loaves of bread (and this was false advertising), but that the company has NO care for customers with this defect (that they've admitted to publicaly).
God forbid you have another problem with the new model, with Kitchenaid - YOU'RE ON YOU'RE OWN!! Buyer Beware - read up on the compnay!

I am on my third kitchenaid professional 600. The other two stopped turning and all it did was spin the gears. This is since December. I never use over 8-9 cups of all purpose flour. That is what my recipe calls for. I am so disappointed because when the mixer is working it works great. I run it for about 2 -3 hours 3 times a week but, I always let it rest in between batches. I wish I knewhow to remedy this problem. I wonder if my mixers have plastic gears. Can you open it up and check it out?
