Coleman Family Dome Tent - Perfect for Camping in the Colorado High Country
Last spring, after the last of the really cold weather here in Colorado had passed the wife and I decided to purchase a family dome tent for camping.
We considered Coleman to be one of the leaders in affodable, quality tents, we were already leaning toward a Coleman family dome tent, but hadn't quite made our final decision yet.
After all, there are many things to consider. The size and price of the tent is only one factor. The other things to consider are ease of setup, durability, weather proofing, warmth, ventilation, and stability in windy conditions.
After reading many reviews, visiting many forums, and looking at many tents in sporting good stores, we decided on the Coleman Red Canyon 17-Foot by 10-Foot 8-Person Modified Dome Tent.
After the kids got out of school around the middle of May, we were itching to use our new Coleman family dome tent. I arranged to take a week off from work, and we headed for the hills.
The family and I like to go far enough out town that we feel secluded, but close enough to civilization that we aren't too far away from emergency medical facilities (we have 4 kids, 3 of them being boys).
We also like to have the ability to take a quick shower, or rinse off, at least once per day (once again, we have 3 boys).
So, we chose our spot in the foothills, which was a place that we had camped before with other tents, and began to setup our new Coleman family dome tent. My oldest son and I decided to setup the tent, which the wife and 3 little ones went to gather firewood.
The assembly of our Coleman family dome tent went very well, and I only had to look at the instructions a couple of times to make sure I was using the correct poles.
By the time the wife and kids came back, we already had the air mattresses and sleeping bags in the tent, and was setting up the camping "perimeter" with our coolers, chairs, and various items that make camping a little easier (lanterns, folding table, etc).
The kids were amazed at how large the Coleman family dome tent was. Truthfully, while putting it together, my oldest son and I were a little bit shocked ourselves! When we laid it on the ground, I thought, "This thing can't really be this big, could it?"
It was.
We could have easily put another 4 people in this tent if we needed to. As it was, our family of 6 fit into this Coleman family dome tent with lots of room to spare.
The divider "curtains" was perfect for giving the kids their space, and got the impression that they were more comfortable having their own little rooms to sleep in.
How did the camping trip go, you ask?
Well, it only rained once, thank goodness. Our Coleman family dome tent kept us and our gear nice and dry, though. The rest of the week was a great time of fishing, cooking trout, gathering firewood and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.
It was a great experience, and I owe at least part of that success to our new Coleman family dome tent.
