Whether you are a minimalist or just love a cup of good coffee, you'll love the Chemex Coffee Maker.

As you can see in the picture to the right, it's a very unique way to brew coffee.

Let me quickly summarize how to use the Chemex Coffee Maker, in case you don't already know.

First, you heat up water in tea kettle, microwave, or open fire.

Second, while the water is heating up to the boiling point, grind the appropriate amount of coffee beans for your pot of coffee (this varies depending on strength). The Chemex Coffee Maker needs the ground to be a bit more "fine" than an auto-drip maker.

Next, place the Chemex filter in the Chemex Coffee Maker. Note: You can use a #3 coffee filter, but these are a bit harder to find (not all stores carry them) and they are thinner than the Chemex filters.

Fourth, put the grounds in the filter and wet the grounds with just a little bit of water, and let the grounds drain. You don't have to use hot water for this step. Wetting the grounds with just a little water keeps the grounds from floating up when you fill the Chemex Coffee Maker pot with water.

Fifth, slowly pour the pot full of the boiling water you heated in step one, and wait for it drip down. When this is done, pour the pot full again... and repeating until you have brewed as much coffee as you need.

That's it!

Strangely, it's a darn good cup of coffee. The Chemex Coffee Maker makes coffee that is very smooth, and not bitter at all. Some say it's the filter, and others say it's the very process of brewing that removes the bitterness.

In case you are wondering about the amount of work it takes to make a pot of coffee... Yes, it's a lot of work. In fact, it's so much work that I rarely use my Chemex Coffee Maker.

Hey, I'm an honest reviewer. What can I say?

Personally, I am just too busy to go through the process of using the Chemex Coffee Maker every morning, so I stick to my Cuisinart Grind and Brew Coffee Maker for daily coffee.

I do, however, take my Chemex Coffee Maker with me when we go camping. It's great to get some water boiling over the camp fire and make coffee in my Chemex Coffee Maker. Since my Chemex Coffee Maker doesn't need electricity (or even batteries), it's perfect for "roughing it" around the fire.
