Like most people, I get a lot of junk mail.

However, I also own a small computer repair and IT services business, so probably get more junk mail than most.

Not a day goes by that I'm not getting credit card offers, sales letters, sales faxes, and other nonsense. Not to mention all of the paper that my own office produces in the course of a day.

Before too long, I have a lot of stuff to shred.

Like many people, I have owned several home office paper shredders that proved to be falsely marketed, poorly built and barely supported.

My most dissappointing experience was with one of the home office paper shredders commonly sold at Office Depot. It advertised on the box that it could shred 11 pieces of paper at once with ease. So, I paid close to $100 for it, only to find out later that it could barely do 5 pieces of paper at a time. Not only that, but it would get really hot after just a few minutes of shredding. Feeding in entire envelopes of junk mail (without opening them) was out of the question.

So, I wanted to review a few of the shredders that I've used in the past, so that other people shopping for home office paper shredders wouldn't have to go through what I went through.

All of these shredders are ones that I have either used extensively in the workplace, or I own personally. Truthfully, there are no duds on the list (that was my intention) and any of these 3 home office paper shredders would be great for your home or office.

If you read through this entire review, you'll quickly notice that they are all Fellows shredders. Some may ask why this is.

Well, first of all, they simply make the best shredders. Just read the reviews at Amazon and look at the ratings and feedback.

Secondly, the Fellows support department is (without a doubt) the best support department for shredders. Period. Just do a quick search on Google, and you will see numerous reports of people calling Fellows to report a small glitch on a shredder, only to be sent a replacement at the company's expense. This seemingly "small" extra is not a small thing at all, especially when you have a real problem.

So, now, on with our review of the top 3 home office paper shredders.

First of the Home Office Paper Shredders: The Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs Shredder

I first saw this paper shredder at a small law office that had about 10 employees.

My IT services business supported their computers, so I happened to know that they used the shredder daily, with zero problems.

Although this wasn't being used in a home office when I first encountered it, I decided that could easily be used in a home or office that had sufficient need for a heavy-duty shredder.

So, I made a few excuses to use this shredder a few times when I was in their office. I also talked to them about their experiences with the shredder. All feedback was positive.

It has a touch sensor around the paper slot that stops the shredder when fingers touch it (great to protect little helping hands), and it has a motor that just won't quit.

This paper shredder is an absolute workhorse, capable of handling up to 1700 sheets of paper per day, and features a whopping 10 gallon basket!

I was so pleased with the results of this shredder in the law office, that I decided to purchase this paper shredder for own home office.

As far as amazing home office paper shredders go, this is the one that I consider the best.

This paper shredder is my top choice.

Second of the Home Office Paper Shredders: Fellowes 32177 Powershred PS-77Cs Shredder

This is an amazing example of what home office paper shredders should be.

This shredder has a strong motor, can handle staples, paperclips, etc... and also has the SafeSense technology that should be standard on all paper shredders.

On the box, it says that it can handle up to 600 sheets per day, which means that it's probably the middle of the road in this review of the top 3 home office paper shredders.

It has a 7 gallon basket for paper particles, which means that you'll have to empty it a bit more often than the Fellows 32197 home office paper shredders, but that might be okay for some.

A nice 5-year warranty backs up this shredder, which means that it's one of the more durable on the market (a longer warranty usually means that the product is built better).

Right now, it seems that they are running a special on this printer, as you can save a whopping $90+ and get FREE shipping on this shredder by following this link. Nice!

Third of the Home Office Paper Shredders: Fellowes 3227901 Intellishred PS-79Ci Shredder

This is the smallest of the home office paper shredders on the list, and is also the one that I like the least.

Don't get me wrong... it's still a great shredder, but it's the one that I would give the Bronze medal to if there were an Olympics for home office paper shredders.

Although this is one of the two home office shredders that come with casters, the shredder is small enough that you can easily pick it up and move it without wheels.

Also, the unit comes with some starter bags and some oil for the cutters, but you can easily use the inexpensive 10 gallon bags from the grocery store.

Don't get me wrong... it's still a great shredder, but it's the one that I would give the Bronze medal to if there were an olympics for home office paper shredders.

It has 6 gallon waste basket for paper particles, and a 2 year warranty.

Although the box markets a patented "NEW Jam Proof System", I have jammed this shredder more than once. It wasn't a physical jam, but the "NEW Jam Proof System" thought that the shredder was going to jam (the LED sensor was in the red) and I had to hit the override button to finish the shredding.

One thing that really stood out about this shredder was how quiet it was. As far as home office shredders go, noise level is usually not a major concern, but it was a nice surprise. If you have a spouse that works odd shifts and always seems to be sleeping when you are working, this may be a good feature to look for in a home office paper shredder.

My "TOP PICK" out of the 3 home office paper shredders

As for my top pick out of our 3 home office paper shredders, my top pick is the Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs Shredder.

It has the strongest motor, and the largest storage bin (10 GALLONS!) and can shred as much paper as you can throw at it without getting too hot.

It has an phenomenal 7 year warranty, which means that this thing is really built to last (the other shredders in this review had a 5 year and 2 year warranty).

It has the same SafeSense technology that most of the good Fellows shredders have, and cuts power to the unit when someone touches the metal around the feeder slot (essential for any family concerned about safety).
